Book Review: "The Dead Secret" by Wilkie Collins - 1856

A dying woman tells a servant to write down a secret and give it to her husband after his death.  The servant hides it in the house, instead, and flees.

Twenty years later, the daughter of the dead woman finds out about the secret and starts to search for it.  I won't say anymore because I don't want to give away any of the plot.

The story is tense and intense.  Just like the 2 previous Collins books I read, this one keeps you at the edge of your seat.  I figured out the secret long before it was revealed, but that didn't take anything away from the story.  It is an example that you can have a mystery without a murder involved.
