Retirement Update

I just had my retirement party and ate a lot of cake!  Sugar high!

I have one more week of work, and then I will be retired.  This is a really big thing for me.  I haven’t had more than 10 days off in a row in decades.  I can’t even grasp what it will feel like, but I suppose I will adapt to it really quick.

Poor Cole.  I hope he doesn’t get tired of spending time with me.  I know my cat, Thunder, will get his greatest wish.  Every morning, he tells me not to go to work—that I need to spend more time with him.  My dog, Maggie, usually wants me to go to work as soon as possible because I give her a Kong toy filled with treats, but that’s how dogs are.  She will like the better walks.

I hope Kevin and Ellen don’t mind seeing me a little more.  I’ll be tagging along with them on their weekday rides.

I will be really, really happy when the days get shorter and I won’t have to give up my trail rides because it is too dark in the evening!  I love trail riding in the fall, and I plan to be doing a lot of it!

Retirement Project--Update Wardrobe

I can't wait to get rid of my old, tired work clothes.  I will be packing them up and giving them away just as soon as I am done with them.

Then--it's time to go to the thrift store and look for some used jeans for riding--since I will be doing so much more of it.

Retirement Project - Become a Cat Blogger

Yes, it is time to join the cat world.  I love following cat blogs.  Since I adore my cat, I think the whole world should know about him.  What better way than to start a cat blog.  I will have more time, now, so multiblogs will not be a problem.  I have already started to lay it out, but I haven't actually blogged, yet.

Thunder may join the Tabby Cat Club and become a Cat Scout, too.  We'll see...

Oncoming Retirement - How It Feels

It feels like I am waiting for the last day of school--counting down to summer vacation.  I really can't imagine what it would be like to not work.  I have never taken more than a week of vacation at a time--it is inconceivable to me what many weeks, even months will feel like.  I do know I will like it.  I may be bored at times, but I am bored much more at work.  At least if I am bored at home, I could pick up a book and start to read.

Another Retirement Project

Spend more time clicker training Thunder.  He just loves it, but it seems like I only do it once every few months.  It works best if I put Maggie outside, but she doesn't like to be out alone for very long.  Still, she will just have to get used to it.  If I could just get her to stay outside 10 minutes at a time, Thunder and I could have so much fun!

Another Retirement Project

I need new glasses.  I plan to do a lot more reading, and these glasses no longer work very well.  It is such a pain to make doctor appointments when you work 5 days a week, so I have been putting it off.  Once I am retired, this will be high on my list.

Another Project for Retirement

I just applied to be a poll worker for the election in the fall.  My brother was one for the primary, and he enjoyed it.  They give you a break for lunch, so I could go home and let Maggie out, because otherwise, it is a long day.

It is a paying job, so that will be a good thing, too.

Projects for Retirement

Projects for Retirement

Get a library card.  When I was growing up, I loved going to the library.  Ellen and I used to walk there when we were younger.  It was a half hour, each way.  I bet we went once a week or so in the summer.  When we got older, we rode our bikes.  It was one of my favorite places.

As I got older, I didn’t have enough time to go to the library.  I didn’t have as much time to read, so I couldn’t get a book read in the amount of time that the library allows. Of course, they would have let me sign the book out, again, but it seemed just easier to buy my books and read at a more leisurely pace.

I haven’t had a library card in years.  In fact, is there such a thing as a library card?  I will be finding out, soon.

Retirement Before I Know It

I will be retiring in just 5 weeks, and I am going to use this blog to write about the mundane things that I will be keeping myself occupied with.  I don't know if anyone will bother reading it, so that makes it all the more fun. I will not worry about educating or entertaining my readers--because I may not have any!
